Koh Doc Mai dive site is located off a beautiful limestone isle just 20km east of Phuket. A haven for macro lovers, this spot is teeming with critters. The site features vertical limestone walls that drop steeply on the east side and a gentler slope on its western site.
Most people dive on the attractive wall on the east side; it is filled with soft corals, whip corals, fan corals, and gorgonians.
Seahorses, ghost pipefish, nudibranch, and other small fish are common encounters here. Marine life also includes leopard sharks, bamboo sharks, groupers, white-eyes moray eels, and schools of various reef fish.
At the base of the wall, there are a couple of caverns that reach quite far back into the rock, and only trained cavern divers are allowed to explore them. In fact, the whole dive site is suitable for experienced divers because of the strong currents and upwelling.
The maximum depth of the Koh Doc Mai dive site is 32 meters (105 feet) and the visibility is usually good, coming in at about 20 meters (66 feet), but may sometimes drop to 5 meters (16 feet). The spot is best dived from November to May, but if the weather forecast is good, trips are possible year-round.
