Erg Somaya is a dive site suitable only for experienced and advanced divers, as it is a drift dive. The dive spot features a plateau at 18 meters deep, while the reef's top lies at 5 meters under the water surface. There is also a drop off that goes beyond 50 meters deep, so divers need to pay attention.
Erg Somaya has an average visibility of approximately 30 meters, which allows divers to observe both hard and soft corals, gorgonians and pinnacles, all of which shelter a plethora of reef fish such as moray eels, wrasse, jacks, tuna, anthias, snappers, mackarels, butterfly fish, triggerfish, parrotfish, barracudas and glassfish.
Whitetip reef sharks are occasionally spotted at this dive site.
Erg Somaya also has two caves which divers can easily explore.
