Ben El Gebel is positioned between the Big Giftun Island and the Small Giftun Island, and its name literally means "tongue of the reef in between the mountains". It has a main reef which is surrounded by sandy areas and three large pinnacles.
The average depth of Ben El Gebel is of 14 meters, but there are portions in this dive site which can be 18 meters deep.
There are beautiful and interesting ergs here, which can be easily observed due to a dive site visibility of at least 15 meters.
Ben El Gebel has a very favourable and sheltered position which makes it suitable for all kinds of divers, from novice to advanced. Strong currents occur very rarely here.
There are soft corals growing on the sea floor, gorgonians, which house eagle rays, turtles, wrasse, moray eels, feather tailed rays, blue spotted stingrays, crocodilefish, tuna, barracudas, glassfish and giant puffers, among many other types of reef fish.
Whitetip and grey reef sharks can also be seen here sometimes.
