Red porgies are marine ray-finned fish which live in the shallow waters of the Atlantic, the eastern coasts of North and South America as well as the Caribbean Sea, at depths of maximum 250 meters.
It can reach a length of 26 centimeters and has an oval body, a dorsal fin with 12 spines and 9 to 12 soft rays. Its colour is pink with silver reflections and it is lighter on the fish's belly.
Red porgies sometimes have blue spots on their upper body, especially younger individuals.
