The king angelfish is a species that lives in the eastern Pacific Ocean, where it can be seen on reefs at depths of 4 to 30 meters.
Adults most commonly have a dark slate blue body; some may have the rear margin of the scales colored a lighter shade with yellow or orange tones. Juveniles are more colorful; they show several blue vertical stripes on the side of the body and yellow to orange markings on the head.
