The Hogfish is a species of wrasse native to western Atlantic Ocean, that can be found around reefs.
The Hogfish has a large, laterally compressed body shape with an elongated pig-like snout which is used to rummage and gaze for crustaceans that are buried beneath the sand.
The juvenile hogfish start out as a female, usually having a pale gray, brown, or reddish brown color, and then mature to become male. Males are distinguished by a deep, dark band spanning from the snout to the first dorsal spine, as well as by a lateral black spot behind the pectoral fin.
The hogfish is regarded by many for its taste and food value.
