Noms alternatifs : Haemulon plumierii, Bluestriped Grunt
The blue striped grunt is a species of ray-finned fish native to the Atlantic Ocean. The name "grunt" was given due to the grunting sound that comes from fish's habit of grunting by grinding its pharyngeal teeth (sound which is amplified by its swim bladder).
The head and the body is yellow with many narrow, horizontal blue stripes.
Altough the blue striped grunt is edible, there have been reports of ciguatera poisoning from consumption of this fish.
Grunts are of little commercial importance.
