West Escarceo dive site in Puerto Galera, Philippines, is a reef dive that follows a steep slope to a depth of about 30 meters (98 feet).
There’s a wide variety of hard and soft corals in the shallow waters, as well as outcrops on the sandy bottom and huge plate and table corals and tube sponges. The Christmas tree tubeworms also color up the coral-filled area.
Common marine life encounters include butterflyfish, pipefish, damselfish, sergeant majors, Moorish idols, pufferfish. Several species of sea cucumber also call this area their home.
West Escarceo is best dived on a flood tide, as the drift offers the chance of finishing the dive through the “Hole in the Wall”, which is another interesting dive site. Divers using Nitrox can cover the two dive sites and finish the dive in the Canyons, yet another beautiful dive spot.
