Molasses Reef is a coral reef that lies to the southeast of Key Largo. It’s a popular scuba diving spot with numerous dive sites. The depth ranges from 2 to 28 meters/6 to 90 feet, making it accessible to most divers.
Over 600 species of fish, corals, and marine plants live in this area. Huge high profile coral heads can be spotted in very shallow depth. Some of the corals you can see here include gorgonians, staghorn, elkhorn, star, brain, and fire corals, and you can also admire several species of sponges.
Among the coral, you can see nurse sharks, green moray eels, coral crabs, shrimps, lobsters, spadefish, snappers, angelfish, parrotfish, Hawksbill and loggerhead turtles. The Caribbean reef shark can also be seen frequently around here.
You can dive here all year round. This reef is definitely a must-see if you’re in the area.
