Fujikawa Maru

Site de plongée à
Improve

The Fujikawa Maru is one of the most famous wrecks due to its large size and intactness.

The 132 meters (433 feet) ship lies on the bottom of the Pacific at 34 meters (112 feet). The deck is found at 18 meters (60 feet) while the top of the wreck can be observed at a shallow depth of only 9 meters (30 feet).

The highlights of the ship are the guns, pilothouse, staterooms, baths, and the aircraft parts still in the holds.

An abundance of soft corals and hard corals can be found on the Fujikawa Maru. As for marine life, grey sharks, reef fish and turtles can be spotted here.

Low current of less than one knot and a good visibility of up to 30 meters (98 feet) make Fujikawa Maru the perfect wreck dive. Suitable for advanced divers.

We then dropped down into the engine room - pix of th engine. Junior then showed me the workshop right at the bottom, port side - a lathe and other tools, pulley-driven. Then deeper inside again was the storeroom, steel shelves with lots of kit, lanterns, spares etc. Very interesting indeed! Had a look at the torpedo hole in Hold 4, then swam forward. Took a photo of the plaque and then into Hold 1 with aircraft propellers, engines and cowlings and ammo - photos of that. Then to the forward gun - photos of that. Spent the decompression sat on the forward goalpost and watched the fish - Damsels, Anthias all came close, especially a tiny Goby and two lovely little Hawkfish which posed inches away.
