El Aguila is a 70-meter-long wreck that was scuttled in 1997. She had spent several years being partially submerged following unclear circumstances and in 1997 it was decided for her to become an artificial dive site.
Hurricane Mitch in 1998 did some damage to El Aguila and split in 3 pieces, making it at the same time easier to be explored by divers.
El Aguila lies at a depth of 33 meters and it is a 5-minute boat drive from the shore. Due to the depth it is accessible only to the advanced and experienced divers.
Among the marine species that populate the wreck are moray eels, eagle rays, groupers, garden eels and parrotfish.
