Blue Hole & Azure Window

Site de plongée à
Improve

Blue Hole is one of Malta's most iconic dive spots, so definitely something not to miss when diving here. The dive site consists of a shelf with shallow water, after which a drop-off comes rather quickly (the drop-off is the Blue Hole itself).

Blue Hole has an imposing archway starting at 6 meters below the water surface, which goes to 15 meters deep. The maximum depth of Blue Hole is of 35 meters.

This dive site is sheltered most of the times, so divers will normally have a very easy and relaxed dive, which is accessible to divers of all levels, even for the novice ones.

Among the species which can be found here are octopus, breams, moray eels, parrotfish and lobsters.

The dive site requires a 50 metre walk from the car park over quite uneven ground, not easy with a lot of dive kit on your back. You are rewarded with an entry into a rock pool of blue water which descends to an opening into the sea. From here you could swim under the iconic Azure Window, a rock formation which arched out into the sea. Sadly the rock arch collapsed in a storm in 2017, leaving a new dive site of huge boulders and swim throughs. Although the Azure Window is no more, the site is even more interesting from a divers point of view.
