Abu Nuhas dive site is one of the best wreck dives in the Red Sea. The reef is home to seven wrecks, four of which are suitable for recreational diving. Given the shallow depth, this site can be explored by beginner divers.
The four wrecks are Carnatic, Chrisoula K, Giannis D, and Kimon M. Carnatic is the oldest of the wrecks, having sunk in 1869. It is also called the “wine wreck” because it was carrying wine. The Chrisoula K, also known as the “tile wreck”, sunk in 1981. Penetration is possible but only for experienced divers. Giannis D is a big freighter that sunk in 1983. Its mast is only 4 meters deep. Alas, Kimon M – a large cargo ship – sunk in 1978 and is the deepest of all four wrecks.
Beware of the rough sea conditions around Abu Nuhas. The area is known for its strong currents and choppy seas. Visibility is good all year round.
