The southern stingray is a whiptail stingray that has a flat, diamond-shaped disc. The female stingrays' disc can grow to a width of 150 cm, while the smaller male stingrays' disc can reach a maximum size of 67 cm. The animal has a grey dorsal surface and a white ventral surface.
These stingrays can be found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Western Atlantic Ocean from the state of New Jersey down to Brazil.
