The old wife is a species of peciform fish that can be found in the temperate coastal waters of Australia.
It has a deep and compressed body, with a concave forehead and its most distinctive feature is its silver-black, vertical, zebra-striped coloration.
The dorsal fin spines of the Old Wife contain a venom which can cause severe pain.
