The mangrove snapper is a gamefish native to the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It can be found in a variety of habitats, including freshwater. It is often confused with the cubera snapper or black snapper, but they are much smaller than that. Most mangrove snappers do not exceed 40 cm.
