The damselfish is a small species of marine fishes that can be found in the tropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is a deep-bodied fish that is strongly territorial and aggressive. The females temporarily leave their territories during mating seasons in order to deposit the eggs on the males territories in order for the male to protect the eggs until the larvae hatch.
An interesting thing is that the male cortez damselfish is known to engage in cannibalism by eating almost 25% of its clutches.
