Cyphastrea is a stunning group of reef corals often referred to as "meteor shower coral." This is because the base of the coral is often blue and the polyps are red, thus resembling a meteor shower. Nonetheless, it is found in a variety of other colors.

The species lives in shallow exposed reefs.
