Ras il-Hobz is a popular dive site located off the southeast coast of Gazo Island, Malta. The spot features a submerged pinnacle known as the Middle Finger that rises from a depth of 50 meters (164 feet) to only 8 meters (26 meters) below the surface of the water.
The narrow channel between the pinnacle and the shore is about 35 meters (115 feet) deep while seaward the bottom is found at a depth of over 100 meters (320+ feet). Because of the different levels of depth, the dive is suitable for Open Water, advanced, and technical divers as long as they don’t dive beyond their qualifications.
Ras il-Hobz is diveable all year round. The average annual water temperature is 20° C/68° F but during the winter it drops to as low as 14° C/58° F. The summer water temperature peaks at 26° C/77° F.
The marine life includes coral growth, algae growth, spiral tubeworms, lobsters, octopus, sea breams, jacks, moray eels, dentex, and painted comber.
