Pulau Lima is an interesting dive site reachable from Redang. Its name means “5 islets” and this is because there are several sub-sites that make up this spot.
The most famous of all of its dive sites is Big Mount, a submerged mount off the northern tip of the island. Due to the strong current present here, it is also a place to see big pelagics such as manta rays and whale sharks.
The southern tip of Pulau Lima presents a series of boulders covered with hard and soft corals, anemones, and nudibranchs. There are also some interesting caves and grottos worth exploring at the base of these large boulders.
On the east side, huge walls encrusted with coral, sea fans, and whips create a beautiful sight. Blacktip sharks can sometimes be seen here. Lionfish, pufferfish, and various other reef fish are frequently encountered here.
The average depth around Pulau Lima is 30 meters/100 feet, which makes the area suitable for advanced divers and up. Visibility ranges from 10 to 30 meters (33-100 feet) depending on location and time of the year. The best time to dive in this area is March through October. The monsoon season runs from November to February.
