Pedernales is the wreck of a flat-bottomed oil tanker that was severely damaged in a torpedo attack by a German submarine in 1942. All that remains here are the scattered parts of the middle section of the ship, as the rest was welded together and taken to the US.
The wreck is now home to a multitude of fish, including angelfish, groupers, trumpetfish, squirrelfish, snappers, silversides, grunts, octopuses, moray eels, as well as spotted eagle rays.
Pedernales lies in about 10 meters/30 feet of water and is accessible to divers of all levels. underwater visibility is excellent and can reach 30 meters/100 feet.
