Nicte Ha (“Flower of the Water” in Mayan) is a lesser-known but beautiful cenote near Tulum. It is located just 5 km from the Dos Ojos parking lot.
The legend has it that Nicte Ha was the guard of the cenote and fell in love with the Prince of Palenque, who was to be wed to someone else. Nevertheless, he tried to marry Nicte Ha. An evil priest discovered them and killed Nicte-Ha. The prince cried so much that the Lord of the Water turned Nicte-Ha into a water lily and the prince into a red cardinal that would visit her for eternity.
Now back to diving. The cenote is smaller than others but has interesting stalagmites and stalactites. The vegetation that grows at the entrance is also beautiful. Because of the light conditions, there’s water lilies that grow in the cenote. Great spot for photographers.
The maximum depth at Nicte Ha cenote is 8 meters/26 feet but the tight spaces and the current make it suitable more for experienced divers.
The temperature is around 26° C/78° F and diving is possible all year round.
