Mesa Reef, also known as La Mesa, is a superb dive site located off Grand Cayman's Seven Mile Beach and to the south of the Oro Verde wreck. It is what remained of a thousand-year-old coral structure that is covered in a layer of stony coral and gorgonian fans and is now part of the juvenile fish nurseries that keep the reefs healthy.
The reef is rich with marine life, which includes large tiger groupers, horse-eye jacks, trunkfish, trumpetfish, golden hamlets, barracudas, spiny lobsters, octopus, coral shrimp, arrow crabs, flamingo tongues, and numerous small reef fish.
Underwater visibility is a spectacular 30+ meters/100+ feet and the currents are mild. La Mesa is about 18 meters/60 feet deep and is accessible to divers of all levels.
