Le Donator

Punto de inmersión en
Improve

Le Donator is one of the most beautiful wreck dive sites in the Mediterranean. The ship was built in 1931 and was named Donator, although it was later renamed Little Earth and then Prosper Schiaffino. During WWII, the ship was used to transport troops, equipment, and supplies from Corsica.

In November 1945, while it was on its way from Algeria to France, Donator struck on a drifting mine and the explosion tore the ship in two.

The 78-meter/255-foot long wreck now lies upright on a sandy bottom. Most of the dive is located around 40 meters/131 feet and the maximum depth is 51 meters/167 feet.

Penetration is possible. You can look for the kitchen, crew quarters, wine cellars, and the engine room.

The wreck is covered with yellow and red gorgonians. Many fish can be seen around the ship: barracudas, groupers, scorpionfish, bream, damselfish, red mullet, sea perch, scorpionfish, moray eels, and even stingrays.

Le Donator is accessible to advanced divers. Diving is possible from April to October, with average water temperatures around 20° C/68° F. You may encounter strong currents in this area.
