Kreidesee Hemmoor

Punto de inmersión en
Improve

Hemmoor Kreidesee is an old opencast chalk mine that was flooded by groundwater and then freshwater when the mining operations stopped. Abandoned since the ‘70s, the flooded mine became known in the 2000s as a great place to scuba dive.

Underwater, you can see the remains of some of the old factory buildings as well as newly added artificial reefs like an aircraft wreck and car wrecks that were placed there to increase the divers’ interest in the location.

Hemmoor Kreidesee has about five entry points. The quarry is considered a deep dive, with a maximum depth of 60 meters/200 feet, making it suitable for advanced divers.

Visibility is great, reaching up to 30 meters/100 feet and there’s no current at all. But the water is around 14° C/ 58° F year-round, so you will need a thick wetsuit or a drysuit if you wish to dive here.

As for the marine life, there’s plenty of freshwater fish like perch, trout, and catfish to see here.
