Joe's Tug is one of the best novice wreck dive spots in the Lower Keys area. The site consists of a 22-meter-/75-foot-long steel-hulled shrimp boat. That’s right, don’t let the name fool you, it’s not a tugboat.
In 1998, the fairly intact boat got seriously damaged by Hurricane George that ripped off the wheelhouse. The following year, Hurricane Irene broke the ship down the middle. Nonetheless, it remains a great shipwreck, especially given the shallow depth that makes it suitable for every diver.
Joe's Tug is now covered with soft and hard corals, sponges, invertebrates, and is home to moray eels, barracudas, grunts, sergeant majors, lobsters, small crabs.
