This dive site is a particularly unusual spot and a true treat for the underwater photographer. It is named after the chaotic coral heads that are spread on the sea floor, as "bolones" in Spanish refers to a disorderly crowd. Each of the coral heads has its own individual ecosystem.
Bolones de Chankanaab has an average depth of 13 meters, but it can reach 25 meters.
The dive site is home to a vast array of marine species, such as lobsters, trunkfish, moray eels, crabs, grunts, snappers. Parrotfish, groupers, barracudas and angelfish can sometimes be spotted here as well.
Divers have to be careful at Bolones de Chankanaab because the Atlantis submarine regularly passes this area with tourists on board.
