Batu Malang, or the “unfortunate rock,” is one of the most famous dive sites off Tioman Island, Malaysia. It consists of medium-sized boulders located down to a depth of about 10 meters/30 feet. It is usually done as the second dive of the day and is a popular spot for snorkeling.
The spot features an abundance of hard coral such as table, staghorn, flower corals, and coral bommies. Many hawksbill turtles can be seen here. Anemonefish and cuttlefish are also abundant. You are also guaranteed to see many other marine animals such as lionfish, wrasses, scorpionfish, butterflyfish, nudibranchs, trevallies, angelfish, triggerfish, moray eels, and blacktip reef sharks.
