Descripción
This Mediterranean dive starts from a small ladder near Camping Proti, leading you into crystal-clear waters just 2 meters deep. The dive begins along a shallow rocky wall where sponges blanket every surface in vibrant colors — the inspiration for the site’s name. At around 5 meters, the sponge cover fades into the typical rocky underwater landscape of the Peloponnese, with crevices and small overhangs to explore. Dropping to 8 meters, you’ll find a sandy patch bordered by lush seagrass meadows, a signature habitat of the Mediterranean. The site offers a rich variety of marine life: curious groupers hiding among the rocks, the occasional lionfish, and even loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), a species well known in Greek waters. With its mix of rocky walls, sand, and seagrass, Sponge Valley is a relaxed but rewarding dive that captures the essence of the Mediterranean seabed.
