You do not have to be afraid. The sand sharks and rays that live there have a great tolerance for divers and seem to enjoy human interaction. Rays, which have a 1.5-meter "wing extension", swim directly to divers, inviting them to stretch and caress their wings (though it's best not to touch them). Some also swim in circles around us, like a cat rubbing against our legs. The gentle Nurse Sharks are an average of 1.5 meters long, and dive guides often feed them with small pieces of fish.
This is a truly unforgettable adventure. Beginning divers can also enjoy this encounter with nature. Be sure to visit Shark-Ray Alley during your stay at Caye Caulker. I enjoyed this dive so much that I did the tour twice.
The dive site is shallow, with a depth of about 1.6 meters which is perfect, and lies in the shallow, crystalline waters within the reef of Shark-Ray Alley.
